The Statistic Observation on 135 Cases of Tracheostomy.




Abstract
Authors have performed a treacheostomy on 135 cases (during 3 year period from 1972 to 1975) for the purpose of maintenance of an airway and other reasons.
We have done statistic observation on these subjects and obtained following results.
1. Tracheostomy was performed most frequently in 1~10 year age group showing 22 cases (16.7%) and 61~70 year age group showing 21 cases (15.6%) next in order.
2. Sex ratio between male and female was about 1.5 : 1 showing 82 cases (60.7%) in male and 53 cases (39.3%) in female.
3. The month of highest frequency was Jun. showing 18 cases(13.3%) and :y showing 14 cases (10.4%) next in order.
4. The most frequent cause of the operation was cerebrovascular accident in 48 cases (35.5%), next was acute .laryngeal infection in 25 cases (18.5%).
5. The majority of the patient had been operated in one or two days after the onset of the disease showing 116 cases (85.9%).
6. Tracheal cannula could be removed in 47 cases (34.8%) within the 3rd postoperative day.
7. The most common complication was subcutaneous emphysema, which was 10 cases(7.4%) among 17 cases (12.5%) The other complications were decannulation difficulty and postoperative bleeding.
8. Emergency tracheostomy was done in 28 cases (20.7%).
